Extensible Markup Language (XML)

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a not a document encoding format by itself, unless it is subjected to a specific XML schema that denotes document semantics, such as DocBook or EPUB

When DocOps software is denoted as using or supporting XML, it means that it either defines custom XML semantics for documentation handling and formatting, or that it uses for other purposes such as configuration.
